3...2....1...Blast Off!

We have had such an exciting week in Ahuriri, exploring space. T3 made rockets that could really blast off! T1 and T2 created their own planets and wrote spectacular stories to describe them. On Wednesday, we visited the Star Dome. It was great fun learning about stars, constellations and Matariki.

Halswell School Bully Free Day

At Halswell School one of our values is Manaakitanga.

Manaakitanga is hospitality, acknowledgment, showing respect, care, sympathy, and empathy.

Where there is aroha and a sense of whānau in a school, manaakitanga will be naturally

evident. It ties people together creating the sense of community. Manaaki is the art of

intuitively knowing or foreseeing what the needs of others are and responding to them in a

very humble way. It is the art of getting in touch with the feelings of others, always

acknowledging their presence in the group, whether they are present at the time or not.

It is the selfless way that Māori people will always give the best of whatever they have to

guests, or to a worthy cause. An expression of manaakitanga is looking after the physical

needs of vistors and family ensuring the warmth of a welcome as well as sustenance i.e.

food and shelter.

We have been doing lots of activities over the week to promote kindness and being an up-stander. Today in our whole school assembly zoom, every studio presented some their thoughts on bullying. Thank you for the beautiful pink tops that came in today too!

Roll-a-Dice maths

In Roll-a-dice partners work together to figure out how many dots they have rolled on the two dice. Partners use the line plot sheet to record the number of dots they have rolled, playing until they have rolled all the values 2 - 12. We then had a discussion about the graph and why it's so hard to get a 2 or 12.
