Whanaungatanga Awards

Halswell School has developed a school-wide system to acknowledge students who are modelling our new values in the playground. Through the children's time at Halswell School (years 0 - 8), they will have the opportunity to earn five significant certificates, one for each value. When a child has gained all of these certificates they will receive a special award recognising this achievement. It may take several years for a child to gain all five certificates.

For the start of term one, the students have been learning about the value Whanaungatanga:

In Ahuriri, we have been discussing and writing about ways in which we can grow connections and relationships with each other. The children have some wonderful ideas about smiling and saying hello to new children,  including others in play, sitting next to people who are on their own. We have been demonstrating this and talking about examples of Whanaungatanga that we see the children modelling.

In our virtual Whole School Assembly today we awarded four value certificates for Whanaungatanga.

We do have Ahuriri Certificates that the children receive more regularly and that recognise special efforts in learning, behaviour, sport, and events such as starting school.
