Art Exhibition Preparation

The children in Ahuriri are so excited to be creating spectacular pieces of art for our whole school exhibition which will be taking place on Thursday 8 December from 2pm - 4pm.

Our overarching theme is 'Kaitiakitanga' - being guardians of our environment. We have been thinking about nature and how we can care for the things that are important to us.

We don't want to give too much away as we would love to see you at the exhibition but here is a sneak peek of some of the work we have been doing.

Friday 4th November

Assembly Performance - Kaitiaki - Caring for the Earth

Ahuriri absolutely shone in Assembly today with our performance of the Kaitiaki song.  This song was very special as it combined English, Te Reo and New Zealand Sign language to convey an extremely important message on how we need to be Kaitiaki and care for our environment.

Celebrating nature and being kaitiaki (guardians of the environment) is Ahuriri's overarching theme to inspire our art for the upcoming Art Exhibition.

Values Certificates

The children in Ahuriri continue to show our school values as we intertwine them into all we do.  The following tamariki have especially shone, being wonderful role models to others.  The pride on their faces as they hold their certificates is priceless.  Congratulations!

The Ahuriri Assembly

Every Friday we have a Learning Team Assembly.  All the teachers take turns to share information and stories and local events and our values.  The children are always eager to hear who will get the special certificates.  These are given to the children who have caught the teacher's attention by doing something special either through achievement or showing our values.  We absolutely love giving these out!  The Ahuriri children are very special.

T4 has grown by quite a bit since the holidays.  The new children have settled in well and the oldest children have enjoyed having some new friends.  We tried to capture them all enjoying our Friday Discovery Session.

Mihi Whakatau

This morning we were lucky enough to hold our first mihi whakatau for 2022. This was an opportunity to welcome our new tamariki and their whānau to Halswell School.

Our mihi whakatau involves the Kapa Haka roopu (group) welcoming new members of our school into the Hall, followed by some brief speeches and waiata kīnaki (supporting songs), hongi/hariru (pressing of noses/handshake) and concludes with some shared kai (food) for the adults and morning tea for the students.

The children in Ahuriri were AMAZING! We were so incredibly proud of them.
